STAYING ALIVE

In January 2009 I was infected with Dengue fever. I had tested my platelet count a few days prior and it was 550. I picked up Dengue fever and my platelet count dropped to 280. Thank God my platelet count was high and I did not require any blood transfusion.

A good way to treat Thrombocytosis ( High Platelet Count) would be to get bitten by mosquitoes bearing Dengue Virus.

The bad news was that it affected every joint in the body. A bone scan showed there was fluid in every joint, making me an old man overnight as I was unable to climb stairways, or get up from sofas. Squatting on the floor became impossible and needed two strong men to pull me up on my feet.

The Bad News is that I have been on Losec for 16 years too long and on Warfarin and Plavix for 14 years too long

The terrible news is that all these medications have just about killed me and made me a diabetic with chronic pain and chronic constipation and bloating, whether I eat or dont eat.

The Good News is that I have not bled to death so far, thanks to Losec that neutralises the effect of plavix. Now I know why my iron count is as low as 6. I must be bleeding somewhere.

The Other Good News is that the day my gastroenterologist asked me why I was on two blood thinners, I came home and decided to give Plavix the flick along with Losec which was replaced by Somac and a Miracle unfolded before me.

My blood sugars just dropped off drastically that I was able to eat normal meals without guilt or insulin. Nearly 18 days now and I have not touched any insulin and have even indulged in chocolates yet the sugar levels are fabulous.

I cannot tell if it was the Losec or Plavix that was causing insulin resistance

I have no choice but to include the Plavix as my GP says the risk is too high, until I see my haematologist and get his nod to drop Plavix

Ill start taking Plavix from tomorrow (15th Sept 2014) and see if my blood sugars play up like before.

15th Sept 2014:
My chemist explained why my INR shot up suddenly from 1.8 to 3.8. Losec brings down INR whilst Somac increases the INR. This sudden rise in INR is because I have stopped taking Losec and have replaced it with Somac.
